OK Computer - Radiohead

OK Computer is the third album by British band Radiohead, initially released on June 16, 1997 in the United Kingdom, through the record company Parlophone. The album was a commercial success, which produced the singles "Paranoid Android", "Karma Police", and "No Surprises", resulting in tremendous growth of the group's popularity worldwide and marking the entry of Radiohead in the U.S. market at that time, debuting in 21st position on the chart. Up to January 2007, OK Computer was certified double platinum in the U.S. and triple platinum in the UK. The popularity of OK Computer is based on the themes of alienation in the modern world. Critically acclaimed, the album is often cited as Radiohead's best work and as a reference point of 1990s music. In 1998 it was nominated for a Grammy as Album of the Year , winning the category for Best Alternative Music Album. Although OK Computer put the British group at the forefront of modern rock music, it became a groundwork for the next albums, which were more abstract. According to the singer Thom Yorke, OK Computer also represented a change in his style of writing lyrics, far from the personal concerns of Pablo Honey and The Bends. The record, considered to be the Dark Side of the Moon of the 1990s, was conceived as an experimental step away from what was then their usual, acoustic based music.
