Dragonball Z could quite possibly be the most popular anime in North America. Its adult themes, exceptional action sequences, comic relief and interesting story lines make for some great moments. The show was never afraid to push the envelope and deliver some very violent scenes. Here are some of the most over the top violent moments that DBZ has to offer.

10) Tien Disarmed (Season 1 Episode 24)

What a way to begin the fight against Napa and Vegeta. In comparison to some of the other moments on this list, this one is fairly tame. What makes this scene so brutal though is that the animators decide to do it in slow motion. As if Tien getting his armed punched off by wasn’t violent enough they decided that it needed to be seen in slow motion. Just the scream Tien lets out is sickening. Truly gruesome.

9) Frieza Cut in Half (Season 3 Episode 104)

Quite possibly the most drawn out fight in the DBZ canon it was refreshing to finally see Frieza get buzz sawed. But he STILL doesn’t die. For the next few episodes we get dialogue between Goku and a floating torso. It’s pretty shameless and would be quite laughable if it weren’t for some outstanding dialogue.
