On December 3, 2010, Best Buy announced their “Free Smartphone Event”, a repeat of Black Friday 2010, when Best Buy gave away some of the most popular phones for free. Of course, you had to buy a new or upgraded two-year contract to get a free phone, but you already know the story of the “free lunch”.
According to Eric Zeman in “Best Buy Offering Free Smartphones Through December 31” at informationweek.com, at least four smartphones will be available for free every day. They will include a phone from each of the four major wireless carriers: T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T.

The first four that were made available on Friday, December 3, are the Droid Incredible by HTC for Verizon, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 for AT&T, the LG Optimus S with Sprint, and the LG Optimus T with T-Mobile.
