Android Pictures
With such a choice greeting the new Android smartphone owner when they wander onto the market page of their LG Ally, Motorola Droid X or HTC Desire HD, it's very easy to spend an entire day engrossed in a Google search to find anything decent to download. There are all sorts of lists (best sporting apps, best financial apps, best free music apps, best apps to help you find good apps) and they all claim different results, so with no definitive answers as to which are actually worth your while adding to your phone, I took it upon myself to pick some at random by sliding through the Android market and installing whatever came up. The results, which can be seen by clicking here, were mixed, but kind of fun. So I decided to do it again.
Shop Savvy Barcode Scanner
Now this did look like it would be useful. You scan a barcode, the app recognises it, shows you the product and shows you the best price you can get it for locally and on the web. Perfect, in theory. However, in practice, its first outing didn't exactly show it at its best. The first barcoded product to hand was a jar of Kenco coffee. The app scanned it through the HTC Desire's camera and instantly, proudly presented its results. My rich blend coffee granules were actually, according to Shop Savvy, a Jessica Williams Live Jazz album. Oh dear.
I gave it another chance. I picked up a bottle of olive oil, scanned the barcode and was told that the product I held in my hand was not the Mediterranean cooking aid, but rather a G3 Metal Airsoft BB Gun. Not even close.
