Android Inc was founded in 2003, it was then acquired by Google Inc two years later. Google also purchased the initial developer of the Android software.

Android's mobile operating system is based upon a modified version of the Linux kernel and has been the biggest rival to Apple's iPhone/iPad to date as it can be found on several devices. The most up to date version is Honeycomb which is soon to be shown on the latest tablets such as the Motorola Xoom.
