Android Ind
A couple of weeks ago, that most wonderful of all days came round: Upgrade Day. I skipped onto the internet, excited about finally being able to exchange my battered but trusty Blackberry Curve for something new and shiny.
I was bombarded with choices at every turn: Should I get an iPhone 4 even though it would mean changing my Orange phone tariff? Should I move networks? Could I be bothered with the hassle? Do I definitely want a smartphone? How about an Android? What is an Android?
I opened up a new tab and began my research in an attempt to find a swift answer to my quandary. After all, it was Upgrade Day and I didn't want to waste too much time, that would mean waiting slightly longer to play with my shiny, new 3G toy.
Again, my brain became quickly fried; online mobile phone reviews seem to be all written by the geek squad for the geek squad. They seem to take for granted a level of technical understanding that I just do not have. I'm unlikely to ever use my smartphone at a Wi-Fi hotspot, that sounds unnecessary and, to be honest, expensive.
I just want to know whether it will sort out phone calls, texts, e-mails and messenger, whether it has a decent camera and a couple of distracting games and, yes, whether it looks pretty: shallow, but true.
What is an Android Phone?
It turns out that Android phones are essentially iPhones, but without the partially eaten fruit motif on the back and, importantly, cheaper to get hold of and run, without lagging behind in the quality stakes. Once I'd deciphered this and taken the recommendation of my best buddy, I put in my order for the HTC Desire.
Let me set aside the jargon and the unnecessarily intricate technical specification. Here is my review of the HTC Desire for the common man (and woman).
