Tikatok, the children's book self-publishing program owned by Barnes and Noble, is hosting a contest for kids who are ages 6-14. The writing competition began on July 11, 2011, and the 20 page (or less) stories must be submitted to Tiaktok by August 21, 2011. Because Barnes and Noble is running the contest, the prizes are all book related, including the tantalizing prospect of meeting a 39 Clues author.

Summer of Imagination Writing Contest

On July 12, 2011, Barnes and Noble offered more information about the Summer of Imagination Writing Contest. The contest is open to any US kids, and it is the perfect opportunity for parents who are looking for some summer enrichment activities. There are three age bands for the competition: ages 6-8, 9-11, and 12-14.

To enter the contest, kids have to use the free Tikatok software, which can be used online or as a Nook Color app. Tikatok has an online word processor and image creator, and kids can also upload their own drawings and photos to go with their stories. The online word processor is free, but there is a fee to order the books. eBooks are $3, and bound books range from $15 to $18.
